What Is The Deep Drawing Process

What is the deep drawing process?

The deep drawing process is a stamping method that uses a deep drawing die to press a flat blank into a hollow workpiece with various openings, or to process a manufactured open hollow part into a hollow part of other shapes. Deep drawing is also called stretching.

The deformation process is: as the punch continues to move downward, the outer diameter of the blank left on the end face of the die continues to shrink, and the circular blank is gradually pulled into the gap between the punch and the die to form a straight wall, and the material under the punch becomes the bottom of the deep drawing part. When the sheet metal enters the gap between the punch and the die, the deep drawing process ends, and the flat blank becomes a cup-shaped part with a certain diameter and height. Compared with the punching die, the working part of the deep drawing punch and die should not have a sharp edge, but a certain radius, and the single-sided gap between the punch and the die is slightly larger than the material thickness.

The deep drawing process can be used to produce cylindrical, stepped, spherical, conical, parabolic and other rotating parts.
